From 16 to 18 October 2026, BMF Clinic’s doctors were invited to speak at La Mer’s Reflections on Healing dialogue at Laurus Hotel, Sentosa Island. Our Medical Director, Dr Ashley Yuen, and Aesthetic Doctor, Dr Kevin Wong, joined La Mer’s skin educator, Jerome, to discuss skin health, skin resilience and aesthetics, in conversation around the theme of healing.

“DO I STILL NEED MOISTURISER AFTER A SKIN BOOSTER?”
This was one of the questions Dr Ashley addressed during the dialogue. Skin boosters and moisturisers serve different roles in keeping skin hydrated:
- Skin boosters support hydration beneath the skin’s surface.
- Moisturisers help protect the skin barrier and reduce moisture loss.
They complement each other, and one does not replace the other. Which approach is suitable depends on your skin condition, so a consultation with a doctor is the best way to find out.

“OILY SKIN DOESN’T MEAN HYDRATED SKIN”
Dr Kevin addressed a common skincare misconception: that oily skin does not need moisturiser. In fact:
- Oily skin can still be dehydrated.
- Over-cleansing can strip away natural oils, which may weaken the skin barrier.
- A weakened barrier can leave skin more prone to dehydration and irritation.
The takeaway is not to remove all the oil, but to keep skin balanced and its barrier healthy.
